The Artist
Karla Stevens
Karla's designs dance on the hard wood furniture as if casting a spell that coaxes magic from the form and idea to the thing itself.
The colors and patterns playfully point out the fun in the functionality and beautifully illustrate the margins of daily life as though each moment was a sacred page.
Her brightly colored creations are a humorous and sophisticated celebration of life on Earth and in the human habitat.
Karla Stevens was born in the Bay Area in 1957. Today she creates her lyrical pieces on the dock and boathouse studio of her waterfront home in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Karla is a 3rd generation breast cancer survivor.
Diagnosed in 1997 she had bilateral mastectomies and during the many surgeries and lengthy recovery process that followed, Karla rekindled an affair with creativity and began to appreciate how short our time is.
In 2001 she left the security of her corporate marketing career to pursue the joy and results of her inventive endeavors that now support her and contribute to her passion in the fight against breast cancer. |
